Ben Alessi Is a Serious Force of Creativity on Debut ‘PRSSR’ EP: Premiere

He may be a fresh-faced 21 year old, but Ben Alessi is a fully-formed creative mind. The New York City transplant funneled the city’s chaotic influences through his vibrant musical soul, and out came six distinctly danceable and colorful tracks. Each is catchy enough for radio play, and each is a strong sonic perspective.

PRSSR is a jam from start to finish. Fans should be familiar with lead single “U,” a forward-thinking future pop tune that’s amassed more than seven million plays on Spotify. It’s choppy vocal hook and fun romantic mood was his official introduction to the music world, and damn if it didn’t sound near perfect. It’s got all the trappings of modern dance-pop hits, but comes with an artistic edge just fresh enough to set it apart from the pack.

The rest of the EP follows suit, exploring a range of rhythms and emotions instantly relatable to contemporary ears while pushing the average listener just outside of their comfort zone. It’s adventurous, a feeling that mirrors Alessi’s personal journey and immediate influences.

“‘Creating this project, I moved to New York City for the first time and began acclimating to a new, hellishly irresistible world,” Alessi tells Billboard. “I felt a bit intimidated and lonely in the beginning which quickly led me to write about it all — from growing pains to falling in and out of love. It’s a celebration of living with uncertainty but still knowing that sometimes it’s okay not to be okay. Whether we deal with career, familial, or societal pressures, this EP is truly a statement of recognizing the harsh realities of our world today, but ultimately learning how to cope with them.”

Ben Alessi Drops Dynamic Track ‘Only’: Exclusive

Producer Ben Alessi is back with his dynamic new track “Only,” premiering today (Mar. 2) exclusively on Billboard Dance.

“Only” perfectly embodies a completely dysfunctional yet addictive relationship. Alessi’s vocals soar and weave beautifully into the atmospheric, full production, as he sings lyrics like, “Only want it when it’s not mine/ You only want me, want me when you’re high.”

Not only do we get a new track from Alessi, Billboard Dance also has a teaser to the Nnamdi Simon-directed “Only” video, expected later this month. The track follows the release of “U,” which was treated to a stellar remix by Michael Brun, and Alessi’s debut EP is set to drop in 2017. (more…)

Michael Brun Is Bright and Bubbly on Ben Alessi ‘U’ Remix: Listen

Ben Alessi is an up-and-coming New York City singer-songwriter with a taste for the tropical and a love for the electronic. His voice is an instrument in itself on single “U” as he plays with melodies and staccato. There’s something in his delivery that says “Caribbean,” and now that Haitian-born Michael Brun has tackled the remix, it’s definitely got that island touch.

Brun turns the brightness up on the already-colorful tune. It’s bouncy and fun, the kind of tune you turn up on the perfect Saturday with friends. Just in time for the weekend. Check it out below.
